For over 6 years, CAMTA has partnered with Academia Cotapaxia, an
international school located in Quito, to provide high school students with
volunteering opportunities during each mission. The students, who are learning in both Spanish
and English, provide volunteer interpretation services to CAMTA patients.
To honour Global Citizenship Day, the school asked Dr. John Lilley
to provide a keynote address on CAMTA and the power of volunteering to inspire
the students to commit to making the world a better place. The students were asked to reflect on key
questions in their mentor groups on how they might engage in global
citizenship, raise funds for needed causes and mentor others to do the same.
CAMTA is very grateful for the participation of these young teens
in supporting our medical mission. We get very busy on the ward and they help
to ensure the patient’s needs are communicated to our staff. We look forward to
a continued relationship with the youth from Academia Cotapaxia.
