Another busy day!
On the Adult side, the team did three hip replacements, including a patient who we had seen in 2005. This man's replacement hip became infected last year, something that happens in about 3% of prosthetic surgeries. The infected hip was removed and his tissues were debrided before he was fitted with a "Prostolac" prosthesis. He will need 6 weeks of antibiotic therapy to clear his infection before receiving another hip in a future year.
In the Pediatric room, baby Mischell (18 months old) had clubfoot surgery. With caudal pain relief for afterwards, she was sleepy in recovery room and very comfortable on the ward. Her feet are very straight now.
Mischell awakens from anesthesia.

Also in the Peds room Maria, a delightful, friendly 10 year old had a plate and screws removed. Maria had surgery through Operation Rainbow two or three years ago and it was time for the hardware to be removed.
